Dedicated Servers Definition
When we speak of web hosting servers, there are three basic varieties - shared website hosting web servers, VPS (private virtual servers) and dedicated servers. Shared web hosting servers accommodate plenty of customers and therefore the resources per hosting account are restricted, VPS accounts give you more server configuration liberty, but also influence other VPS web hosting servers on the hardware node if used imprudently, and dedicated servers offer you the possibility to perform everything you please without messing with anyone else.
Why would you need a dedicated server?
Dedicated servers are typically much more high-priced than shared servers or VPS web hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The explanation is rather simple. If your corporation has a data-heavy web portal, or simply has very special server architecture requirements, the proper choice is a dedicated server. For somebody who is prepared to invest in security and reliability, the higher price is not an issue. You receive complete root access and can use 100 percent of the hosting server's resources without anyone else using these system resources and intervening with your web pages.
Hardware architectures
Most hosting companies, incl. us at Hosting Wordpress, provide several different hardware configurations you can select from as per your requirements. The hardware configurations offer different types of processors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and hard disk sizes and different monthly bandwidth allowances. You can select a hosting Control Panel, which is a convenient user interface if you would like to utilize the server for website hosting purposes solely and prefer not to resort to an SSH client for all the modifications you will be making. We offer three types of web hosting Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.
The web hosting CP of your choice
If you are a self-reliant Linux user (our web servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could administer your dedicated server via an SSH connection only. That, however, could be awkward, especially if you wish to grant full root access to someone else who has less technical proficiency than yourself. That is why having web hosting Control Panel software installed is a brilliant idea. The Hepsia web hosting Control Panel user interface that we offer does not include complete root access and is chiefly suitable for someone who owns multiple sites that absorb a lot of system resources, but wants to manage the web portals, databases and electronic mail aliases using an intuitive web hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting CPs, on the other hand, give you complete server root access and have 3 access levels - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell web hosting packages instead of utilizing the dedicated hosting web server just for yourself, you should select one of these two.
Server monitoring and backup procedures
Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated server and of backing it up. In the event of a predicament with your web hosting server, such as an unresponsive Apache or a network downtime, it is useful to have some sort of monitoring platform activated. Here at Hosting Wordpress the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated server too. Backups are also an additional option - the hosting company offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could select a type of RAID that would permit you to store the same data on two server disk drives as a protective measure in case of a hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted complete root access deletes something accidentally.
